Oneonta, New York – A man who fell off a cliff on the island of Oahu and died last month has been named the youngest person ever to survive the winter.
John Thomas, 31, fell about 60 feet off a small cliff at his home on December 13, but he survived and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The National Weather Service issued a warning to residents about a high risk of severe weather, including winds of at least 60 mph and rain of up to 10 inches.
Thomas, of Olean, New Hampshire, was the second person to die in Hawaii in the last month.
A post-mortem examination has yet to be performed.
His parents, Thomas and Lisa, were able to get his body to the morgue for a burial.
Thomas was born in England and grew up in the Netherlands, according to his obituary on the New York Daily News website.
He had moved to the U.S. in 2008 to pursue a degree in architecture, according the obit.
