Apple has just launched a new app to stream the NFL on its iOS and Apple TV.
The app allows fans to watch games and other content on their iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV from their Apple TV via the iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac computer, all from their own home, rather than through an Apple TV app.
The apps, dubbed Apple Sports Premium, will launch on September 23.
The free Apple Sports app will also be available for the $4.99 per month Apple TV subscription, the same as any Apple TV, but it’s more limited than the free version.
Apple Sports has a large number of apps and a big user base, which means there will be some traffic for the free Apple TV version, but Apple is expecting much more traffic for Apple Sports premium on its home-based streaming service.
The Apple TV does not have a home-screen notification for the NFL, but if a fan’s iPad is connected to their home, it will give a notification on the home screen with the game clock and live scores.
It’s not clear whether the app will work with a separate iPhone or a separate iPad.
The official Apple Sports site does not include the NFL’s name in its sports ratings.
Apple said it was adding the app because “we are proud to be an official fan experience partner of the NFL.”
